The Sketty School site was first purchased by the Association in 2010, and since the purchase, we have spent several years in the design stage looking at different configurations, mixes and uses for the development. We have since appointed a new architect and are happy to announce that we have finalised a scheme for the development.
The scheme will comprise of 43 x 1 & 2 bedroom flats for rent when completed, which will wrap around Carnglas Road and Tycoch Road, with car parking and green amenity areas inside of the development for the residents to enjoy.
Part of the revised design is to include a commercial element on the ground floor, at the corner of the building. We have already received interest in the space from a local company who are hoping to turn the space into a coffee shop and a meeting place for local community groups.
Pending the necessary planning and funding applications, we will then look to appoint a contractor and plan to begin construction in Summer 2015.
Support Living Facility
This scheme is being developed by Coastal in partnership with the Swansea Young Single Homeless Project (SYSHP). The scheme will see the demolition of the existing building and the creation of an 8-bedroom new-build facility which, once completed, will be used by SYSHP to provide accommodation for young people currently in need of a home.
As the site occupies a central location on Alexandra Road, the new building has been carefully designed so that it is fitting with the already established community and residential area in which it will be developed.
Prior to seeking planning permission, we held public consultation events with the local community, including a public exhibition where members of our development team were on hand to speak with members of the community and to discuss the developments potential to generate social benefits locally.
We will now look to appoint a main contractor in early 2015 with the site works due to start in mid-Spring 2015.
The Bush Car Park
When complete, the scheme will comprise of 17 flats (16 x 1-bedroom and 1 x 2-bedroom) for rent, with 17 resident car parking spaces also included. The existing commercial units at the development will be demolished and rebuilt, and we have been able to retain the 20 public car parking spaces.
We will be meeting with the architect in early 2015, with a view to starting on site in Autumn 2015.
We have purchased two parcels of land on Evans Road in Neath, with the intention of developing one bedroom flats, two and three bedroom houses and one and two bedroom bungalows on the site. Each of the homes will have its own off street parking, with the houses and bungalows also benefitting from having good sized gardens.
Even though the build looks to be a complex one due to the slope on the land, we feel that site, when completed, will provide excellent family accommodation.
Subject to planning approval, we hope to appoint a contractor and then start construction in Summer 2015.
